Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
OCT is the equivalent of a CT scan of your eye. It provides our optometrists with a cross-sectional and 3D view of your retina to allow early diagnosis and monitoring of Glaucoma and Macula Degeneration. We are extremely proud to be one of the first practices in the country to have taken delivery of the combined Nidek High Resolution OCT.
As part of our continuing commitment to offer you the best in eye care we take a digital retinal photograph as part of your eye examination. This is a detailed image of the back of your eye and can reveal early signs of diabetes, hypertension and macula degeneration. We keep this record of your eye health so we can review it when you come back to see us next time.
What is the Community Eyecare MECS Scheme?
The Minor Eye Conditions Service is a free service available to all patients registered with a North Yorkshire GP and provides patients experiencing recently occurring medical eye conditions with appropriate treatment closer to home.
At Samantha Parker Optometrist we are accredited to provide this service.
Eye conditions which can be treated under the Community Eyecare MECS include:
- Sudden or recent reduction in vision in one or both eyes
- Red eyes
- Pain or discomfort in the eyes
- Recent onset of flashes and/or floaters in one or both eyes
- A scratch to the outer surface of the eye
- Suspected foreign body in the eye
How do I access the Community Eyecare MECS Scheme?
You can make contact with us directly and ask to be seen under the MECS Scheme. Appointments are available during normal working hours and you should be seen within 48 hours.
Direct Cataract Referral
The practice is accredited to refer patients with moderate cataract directly to the Patient Choice Office. This speeds up the whole process so you can be examined at the hospital without the need to see your GP first.
Glaucoma is an eye disease which destroys peripheral vision initially and if not detected and treated can lead to blindness. It results from damage to the optic nerve caused by raised pressure in the eye or weakness of the nerve itself.
Our equipment enables us to look at the appearance of the optic nerve, painlessly measure the pressure inside the eye and examine the visual fields. Our Visual Field Equipment is approved by the DVLA.
Dry Eye Clinic
Many people suffer with Dry Eye symptoms which can vary from mild irritation to constant discomfort. Dry Eye symptoms can also show as overly watery eyes!
These symptoms can affect your life, including work and at its most extreme Dry Eye can cause lasting damage to the eye’s surface. Our Dry Eye Clinic aims to find you the right individual treatment to improve uncomfortable symptoms. The assessment will provide a much more detailed assessment than is possible in an NHS Eye Test.
